About Us
Though I love all things vintage, fashion is my first love. I graduated high school in 1992, and it was around that time that I started shopping through the long-forgotten closets in my house to find items from when my mom was my size. Essentially, I never stopped playing dress-up, and why would I? It's the most fun - and what they say is true - they literally do not make it like they used to. Also, shopping at the mall was super expensive, and at the end of the day, you came out looking just like everyone else. My first "purchase" from the hall closet was a rust-colored knit and suede jacket from Beeline, which, similar to Avon and Tupperware, was part of the mid-20th century trend of making a party out of shopping. In my early 20s, I rented my first apartment on my own in Huntington, NY. It was within walking distance of the downtown area where I bought my first piece of vintage jewelry - a brown Moonglow Lucite choker by Coro. I still have it. My apartment was above a thrift store. I was hooked on both and have never looked back. Now I am rounding the corner to 50 years old, and I have been having the absolute best time sourcing the items that I've always wanted but maybe couldn't afford or fit into, as well as items that I had loved and (crazily) let go of. I love pieces with a soul or a backstory, or that speak to a time I remember fondly. I love separates that I can mix seamlessly with my current wardrobe pieces to create a look that is uniquely my own and makes me feel beautiful and special. By the way, my name is Robyn. "Bad Sandy" is inspired by the Sandy from "Grease" and the iconic moment she debuts her new look. And before you say "ew, she changed her look for a dude," remember that's all she did. He engaged in every sport there was and ultimately ended up on the track team, so, yeah - I'll take playing dress up over running any day.
